If you live in South or Central Mumbai, you’ve probably looked at your BEST electricity bill at least once and wondered why the final amount is much higher than simply multiplying your units by the per-unit rate.

A resident from Dadar recently asked me why their monthly consumption was only around 240 units, yet the bill seemed higher than expected. After checking the bill together, the reason became clear. Apart from the energy charges, the bill also included wheeling charges, Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC), electricity duty, fixed charges and other applicable components. Most consumers notice the total amount but never get a chance to understand how each charge contributes to the final bill.
That’s exactly why I built this BEST Mumbai Bill Calculator. Instead of manually checking the latest tariff order or trying to calculate every charge yourself, you simply enter your monthly electricity consumption and connection details. Within seconds, the calculator provides an estimated bill using the latest tariff applicable to Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST Undertaking).
Whether you live in Colaba, Nariman Point, Fort, Girgaon, Byculla, Dadar, Mahim, Matunga, Sion or any other BEST supply area in Mumbai’s Island City, this calculator helps you estimate your electricity bill before your official bill is generated.
What Is the BEST Mumbai Bill Calculator?
The BEST Mumbai Bill Calculator is a free online tool developed specifically for consumers receiving electricity from BEST Undertaking. It estimates your monthly electricity bill using the latest tariff approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).
Unlike basic electricity calculators that simply multiply your units by a single rate, this calculator considers the complete billing structure used by BEST. It automatically applies slab-wise energy charges, wheeling charges, Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC), fixed charges, electricity duty and other applicable components to generate a more realistic bill estimate.
Whether you’re a homeowner, tenant, shop owner, office operator or industrial consumer, this calculator gives you a clear estimate of your upcoming electricity expenses without requiring any manual calculations.
If you’d like to verify the official tariff yourself, you can refer to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) Official Website. Consumer services, bill payment, new connections and other electricity-related information are available on the BEST Undertaking Official Website.
How to Use the BEST Mumbai Bill Calculator

2
Enter the number of electricity units consumed during the billing month exactly as shown on your latest BEST electricity bill.
3

Review the detailed breakdown showing energy charges, wheeling charges, FAC, taxes, fixed charges and your estimated payable amount.
Why This BEST Bill Calculator Is More Useful Than a Basic Unit Calculator
Many websites simply multiply your monthly units by one electricity rate and display the result. Unfortunately, that’s not how a BEST electricity bill is prepared.
Your monthly bill contains several components that work together. Ignoring even one of them can make the estimate quite different from your actual bill.
Latest MERC Tariff
Calculations follow the latest FY 2026–27 tariff approved by MERC for BEST Undertaking consumers.
Slab-wise Energy Charges
Residential bills are calculated using the correct slab structure instead of applying one flat rate to every unit.
Automatic Wheeling Charges
Every billed unit automatically includes the applicable wheeling charge, saving you from manual calculations.
Fuel Adjustment Charge (FAC)
The calculator also adds the latest Fuel Adjustment Charge so your estimate is much closer to the actual bill.
Supports Multiple Connection Types
Residential, Commercial, Industrial and EV charging consumers can all estimate their monthly electricity expenses using one tool.
Detailed Bill Breakdown
Instead of showing only one final amount, every major billing component is displayed separately so you know exactly where your money is going.
Why Your BEST Electricity Bill Changes Every Month
This is probably the question Mumbai consumers ask me most often.
Let’s say a family in Matunga usually consumes around 190 units every month. During the summer, they begin using an air conditioner for a few extra hours each day. Their monthly consumption increases to around 280 units.
Most people expect the bill to increase only because of those extra units. However, a BEST electricity bill includes several other components such as wheeling charges, Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC), fixed monthly charges and electricity duty. When all these are added together, the increase often feels larger than expected.
That’s why checking your estimated bill before the billing cycle ends can be helpful. If your consumption is rising faster than expected, you still have time to reduce unnecessary usage and avoid an unpleasant surprise when the official bill arrives.
BEST Mumbai Electricity Tariff Rates 2026–27 (MERC Approved)
If you’re trying to estimate your BEST electricity bill accurately, the first thing to understand is that there isn’t a single electricity rate for every unit you consume. Your bill is calculated using the tariff approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), along with other billing components such as wheeling charges, Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC), electricity duty and fixed charges.
The following tariff information is based on the latest FY 2026–27 tariff applicable to BEST Undertaking consumers in Mumbai.
Residential LT I(B) Tariff
This tariff applies to most residential consumers served by BEST in South and Central Mumbai.
| Monthly Consumption | Energy Charge | Wheeling Charge |
|---|---|---|
| 0 – 100 Units | ₹5.05 per unit | ₹1.35 per unit |
| 101 – 300 Units | ₹10.25 per unit | ₹1.35 per unit |
| 301 – 500 Units | ₹13.80 per unit | ₹1.35 per unit |
| Above 500 Units | ₹15.80 per unit | ₹1.35 per unit |
Monthly Fixed Charges
| Connection Type | Fixed Charge |
|---|---|
| Single Phase Residential | ₹135 per month |
| Three Phase Residential | ₹435 per month |
Many Mumbai residents notice a significant increase in their electricity bill during the summer months. While higher air-conditioner usage certainly increases energy consumption, it’s important to remember that wheeling charges, FAC and electricity duty are also calculated on the bill. Looking only at the per-unit rate rarely tells the complete story.
Commercial (LT II) Tariff
This category covers offices, retail shops, restaurants, hotels, clinics, coaching centres and most commercial establishments connected under the LT Commercial category.
| Component | Applicable Rate |
|---|---|
| Energy Charge | ₹12.30 per unit |
| Wheeling Charge | ₹1.35 per unit |
| Fixed Demand Charge | ₹525 per kW per month |
| Electricity Duty | 21% |
If you own a café near Fort, a boutique in Colaba or an office in Nariman Point, don’t forget that your sanctioned load directly affects the fixed demand charges. That’s why commercial electricity bills can vary even when monthly unit consumption remains similar.
Industrial LT V Tariff
Industrial consumers connected under LT V are billed using a different tariff structure approved by MERC.
| Component | Applicable Rate |
|---|---|
| Energy Charge | ₹7.15 per unit |
| Wheeling Charge | ₹1.14 per unit |
| Fixed Demand Charge | ₹420 per kW per month |
| Electricity Duty | 9% |
Factories, workshops and industrial units should always include demand charges while estimating their monthly electricity expenses. Ignoring these fixed charges can result in a significant difference between the estimated and actual bill.
Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC), Taxes and Other Mandatory Components
Besides energy charges, every BEST electricity bill includes a few additional components that are approved by the regulator. These charges are automatically included by our calculator to provide a more realistic estimate.
| Billing Component | Applicable Rate |
|---|---|
| Fuel Adjustment Charge (FAC) | ₹0.679 per unit |
| Tax on Sale | ₹0.279 per unit |
| Residential Electricity Duty | 16% |
Unlike a simple per-unit calculator, our BEST Mumbai Bill Calculator automatically includes these components while estimating your monthly bill. This gives you a much closer estimate to the official bill generated by BEST Undertaking.
